Monthly Meetings and Speaker Programme
"Make the most of life once you’re no longer in full time work by exploring new ideas, skills and interests with your local u3a."
Our monthly meeting is on the second Tuesday of the month, from 10:00am till 12 noon, in St Mary’s Church Hall, Hammersmith Road, W14 0QL. The hall is on the corner of Edith/Gliddon Road and Hammersmith Road and has wheelchair access. It is about 300m north of Barons Court station or from Hammersmith bus station a 9, 10, 27 or 306 going east will take you to the Brook Green stop (second stop) 100m from the hall.
Attendance is £2 for members. However, September's Showcase Day, November's AGM and talk, and December's Christmas Party are free for members. Visitors are welcome for a donation of £3 which will be refunded to those joining on the day. Carers are also very welcome for whom there will be no charge.
Visitors are allowed a maximum of two visits between April and March before they obliged to join our u3a.
We have invited speakers on a range of interesting topics, usually supported by audio-visual equipment.
Entry to the hall will be from 10:00am. Members can then pick up their free tea/coffee and biscuits. This gives a chance for the members to socialise before the talk. The talk will begin at 10:30am and it is requested that members return their cups to the kitchen before the talk starts.
If you would like to contact the Speakers' Secretary, the contact email address is speakers.hfu3a@gmail.com.
For those members with hearing problems, if you have a relatively new smart phone (or have access to one), you can set it up to produce a text to display what a person is speaking.
To enable this:
- Go to Settings
- Select Accessibility
- Select Hearing Enhancements
- Select Live Transcribe / Live Captions (the text depends of your phone type)
- Press On
- Go back, then press Live Transcribe
When you finished, go to Live Caption and switch it off.
It has been noted that there was a small issue using an iPhone but if changing the language from English to Canadian English seems to resolve the problem.
On Android phones (and possibly iPhones) you can create an icon which will enable the transcription with a single press.
If you have problems with this at a meeting, speak to me and I will help you set it up.
